    Alanya's Top Sights: the Castle, Red Tower, Shipyard and Damlataş

    Choosing a property
    02.10.2026

    A practical route through Alanya's top sights: order of visits, timing, climbs, heat, tickets and checks before the trip.

    Alanya's Top Sights: the Castle, Red Tower, Shipyard and Damlataş

    A first acquaintance with Alanya is best built around the historic peninsula. Here you will find the castle, the Red Tower, the Seljuk shipyard and Damlataş Cave. The right order depends on the season, the weather and how much walking you are ready for.

    The castle: a large historic district

    The official museum listing states that the castle walls stretch for about 6.5 kilometres. Inside are sites from different eras, residential streets, viewpoints and sections with changes in elevation. If time is short, choose your goal in advance: the inner citadel, panoramic views, historic streets or a combination with the Red Tower.

    In summer, plan the climb for the morning or evening. You will need water, non-slip shoes and time to spare. Check the cable car's operation and the opening hours of individual sites on the day of your visit.

    The Red Tower

    The Red Tower stands by the harbour. The official tourism source dates its construction to 1226 and notes its octagonal shape and height of 33 metres. If the interior is open, check the ticket office hours and the physical accessibility of the climb before entering.

    The shipyard

    The Seljuk shipyard is located next to the Red Tower by the water. It makes sense to visit these sites together. The stone by the water can be slippery, and how comfortable the visit is depends on the sea swell and the weather. Check the museum hours on the official website.

    Damlataş

    Damlataş Cave is located near the western side of the peninsula. The municipal listing states that it was discovered in 1948 while stone was being quarried to build the harbour. It is humid inside and there are steps; tourist stories about its healing effect are not medical advice.

    Three route options

    Short, 2–3 hours

    Damlataş → the western side of the peninsula → one viewpoint.

    Historic, half a day

    Red Tower → shipyard → lower castle streets → a chosen upper viewpoint.

    Full day

    Damlataş in the morning → the castle → a break during the hottest hours → the Red Tower and shipyard towards the evening.

    What to check in the morning

    1. official opening hours and ticket office closing times;
    2. prices and whether MuseumPass or MüzeKart applies;
    3. whether the cable car is running;
    4. the temperature and chance of rain;
    5. route accessibility for children and people with limited mobility.

    The route also helps you assess real distances, terrain, seasonal crowds and how different parts of the centre connect.
